Rooted in seventeen centuries

Roots & Roasted stands on At Meydanı — the ancient Hippodrome of Constantinople — where the city has gathered for seventeen centuries. Our name is a promise: roots that run deep, and roasts worth crossing the world for.

Our beans come from Calibre Coffee, the Istanbul roastery behind the 2023 World Coffee Roasting Championship runner-up. Every cup — from espresso to slow filter — is dialed in with care by our baristas.

Whether you need a flat white between Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, or a quiet table away from the crowds, our doors and our terrace are open to every coffee lover.

Where to drink specialty coffee in Sultanahmet?

Roots & Roasted is a specialty coffee shop directly on Sultanahmet Square — the historic Hippodrome — at At Meydanı Cd. No:10/1, between the Blue Mosque (3-minute walk) and Hagia Sophia (5 minutes). We brew Calibre Coffee beans, from the Istanbul roastery behind the 2023 World Coffee Roasting Championship runner-up, as espresso, filter, Turkish coffee and cold brew, and we bake our own desserts, including the baklava cookie (a TripAdvisor reviewer called it “a must”). There is indoor seating and a shaded terrace on the square. Open every day, 09:00–19:00.

What are your opening hours?

Every day, including Sunday, from 09:00 to 19:00.

How far are you from Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque?

About a 5-minute walk from Hagia Sophia, 3 minutes from the Blue Mosque, 1 minute from the Egyptian Obelisk and 6 minutes from the Basilica Cistern.

What coffee do you serve, and whose beans are they?

Espresso drinks (espresso, cortado, flat white, cappuccino, latte), filter coffee, Turkish coffee, iced coffee and cold brew, plus a seven-flavour matcha line and teas. Our beans come from Calibre Coffee, the Istanbul roastery behind the 2023 World Coffee Roasting Championship runner-up.

Do you serve Turkish coffee?

Yes — brewed the traditional way. We also serve Turkish tea in a tulip glass.

Is there outdoor seating?

Yes. We have a shaded terrace right on the square and indoor seating along the windows.

Do you have oat or almond milk?

Yes, both are available for any coffee for a small surcharge. We also make our own lemonades.

Do you have desserts? What is the baklava cookie?

We bake handmade desserts daily. Our signature is the baklava cookie — a TripAdvisor reviewer called it a must. We also serve Mövenpick ice cream.
